I often get requests for permission to publish links to the Ixora web site, or to quote some of its information. I am forwarding this response to "answers" to explain my attitude on the matter. In short, copyright is retained merely for protection, not to prevent reasonable use.

Of course, I take a dim view of plagiarism. However, if you learn from me, then integrate that learning into your own understanding, and build worthily upon that foundation, you are not standing on my toes but on my shoulders.

Montaigne wrote, "Truth and reason are common to every man, and are no more his who spake them first, than his who speaks them after. ... That which a man rightly knows and understands, he is the free disposer of at his own full liberty, without any regard to the author from whom he had it ..."

Please quote me with acknowledgement if my words are adequate to your purpose, otherwise write what you will and judge for yourself whether an acknowledgement is appropriate.
