Oracle Advanced Performance Tuning Scripts

Data Dictionary Scripts

As documented in the Oracle Server Tuning Guide, you can edit a copy of the sql.bsq script prior to database creation, and use that script during database creation to optimize the storage parameters of the data dictionary by setting the _init_sql_file parameter. If you are going to rebuild a database, and want to optimize the data dictionary storage in this way, then the following two scripts can help.

dd_initial_extents.sql

The most common modification that is made to the storage parameters of the data dictionary is to size the INITIAL and NEXT extents of the major data dictionary segment to avoid a proliferation of extents. This script recommends appropriate values.

Download script for: 7.3, 8.0 or 8.1

dd_cluster_sizes.sql

This script recommends values for the SIZE clause of the two main data dictionary clusters. Unless this value is customized, there is a significant risk of cluster block chaining in these clusters.

Download script for: 7.3, 8.0 or 8.1
